When to use this
You need to plan transport or logistics for an opportunity
You want to understand the total weight of grouped items
You’re working with containers and need control over how their weight is calculated
Before you begin
Access to System Preferences
Items must have weight data set to be included in calculations
Steps
View group weight on an opportunity
Go to Opportunities and open an opportunity
Look at the right-hand side of the screen, in line with each group heading
Review the cumulative weight displayed for each group
Add, remove, or update item quantities as needed
Confirm that the group weight updates automatically

Set how container weight is calculated
Go to System Preferences > Opportunities > Weight Calculation

Find “How should container weights be calculated?”
Choose one of the following options:
Use container weight only (treat as a single item)
Use weight of individual items within container (sum of contents)
Save your changes
Tips
Group weights update dynamically as you edit items or quantities
Use container-only weight when containers are pre-packed and handled as single units
Use item-level weight when you need a more detailed breakdown of contents
Keep item weight data accurate to ensure reliable totals
Common issues / troubleshooting
Problem: Group weight seems incorrect
Fix: Check your container weight calculation preference and confirm whether container or item weights are being used
Problem: Some items are not included in the total
Fix: Items without weight data are excluded. Add weight information to ensure they are counted
Problem: Weight changes after recalculating the opportunity
Fix: Recalculation updates totals based on current items and system preferences
