What is the OnRent Events Companion app?

Pair your device with an opportunity by scanning the QR code to start using your device’s camera as a scanner.

The Companion app is a handy way to pick and prep assets on your iOS smartphone and tablet. Please note that the app is currently only available for iOS devices, with Android availability under review.

Use the Companion app to:

  • Allocate, prep, book out, and check in assets on an opportunity.

  • Scan barcodes with your device’s camera.

  • Free scan assets or barcodes onto an opportunity.

  • Review all scans made on your device.

Get started 

Download the Companion app from the App Store (iOS). Please note that the app is currently unavailable on Android devices due to changes in Google Play Store terms and conditions.

If you’re having trouble installing, contact your device manufacturer.

Pairing the app

The app is designed to be a companion to OnRent Events. You pair the app with your company or opportunity by scanning a unique QR code that creates a link between the two. 

Note: In order to pair successfully then your device's camera must be able to support scanning QR codes; otherwise, it is incompatible.

Pair with your Company

To pair with your entire OnRent Events system, click on your user image in the top right of your screen and select Mobile Pairing.

Once clicked, you’ll be able to search for opportunities here:

To pair with a specific opportunity, click on the mobile icon within the Detail View.

You’re now good to go! You can allocate, prep, book out, or check-in on your smartphone or tablet using your device’s camera. The paired opportunity is automatically updated in real time.

Data security

Security is always top priority, to use the app, pair it with your device using a unique QR code.

  • The QR code is accessible only to logged-in users and changes regularly.

  • During the pairing process, the app can identify the user associated with the QR code and access your data securely.

  • The app uses OAuth2 technology, meaning that it’s only granted access to your data for a limited amount of time.

  • All communication between the app and OnRent Events is via SSL technology only (i.e. HTTPS).

Common questions

Will the app be available on Android devices again?

Yes, the OnRent Events team is working to address the requirements needed to reinstate the app on the Google Play Store. Updates about the app's availability will be communicated through official channels, such as the OnRent Events website or customer emails. In the meantime, Android users can access OnRent Events through their mobile device's web browser as the system is fully responsive.

Are there any system requirements to run the app?

The app currently works on iOS devices without any problems. To use the barcode scanning functionality, your device will need to have a camera. The app is temporarily unavailable for Android devices.

Please remember, specifications of iOS devices can vary depending on the age of the device you’re using so your experience may vary.

Does the app work on iPads?

It does! It’s optimised for smartphones, but will still look great on tablets.

Note: The Companion app is currently unavailable on Android devices. This is due to updates in Google Play Store's terms and conditions that impacted the app's listing. The OnRent Events team is actively reviewing the situation to restore Android compatibility and will notify users when the app becomes available again for Android users.

Can I access my organisation, quote documents, resource planner, etc.?

Not through the app, but OnRent Events is fully responsive so you can head to your subdomain in your mobile device’s browser to get access to your complete system.
