There might be times that you need to export a list of contacts, organizations, or venues from the system. For example, you might need to import to a word processor for a mail merge or to a marketing automation solution.

There’s a couple of ways you can do this:

  • Create a custom view and download it to a CSV

  • Export all records in System Setup

We’ll run through each of these in this guide, as well as reasons why you might choose one over the other.

Looking to import to MailChimp?

Don’t forget we offer a direct export to MailChimp; use the Export to MailChimp option.

Create a custom view

Great for creating a filtered list. Custom views let you create your own tables in Current to see and sort the data as you wish.

To create one, go to People & Organizations, hover over View, and click the green create button that appears.

When creating your view, choose just the attributes that you need and set up filtering options so you only see the kinds of contact, organization, or venue that you need.

Need help setting up a custom view? We’ve a full run-through: Custom views

Export a custom view to a CSV file using the little download icon at the top-right.

Export data

Doing an export of your records is good for making adjustments to your data in bulk.

Head to System Setup > Export Data and choose the contact, organization, or venue tick box. Current will email you CSV file(s). Each CSV file will have a row for each of your records.

The columns you’ll see on the CSV file match the fields that you see in Current RMS when creating or editing a contact, organization, or venue. They’re all defined in our Importing & Exporting Data section, see: Importing & Exporting

Update your records using the CSV

Need to make changes? You can make changes on the exported CSV files and then re-import this file to Current RMS to apply the changes.

We've got a guide that runs through this in more detail, check out: Updating records using import/export

Common questions

Why can’t I access System Setup?

It sounds like you don’t have permission. Only administrators can access System Setup. The permissions on your account are set up by someone within your company. Ask the main Current RMS user at your company or your manager if you need access.
