Clone an opportunity

Clone an opportunity to create a copy of it.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Some opportunities might come around year after year, or you might find yourself doing a similar job to one you've done previously. Clone an opportunity to create a copy of it.

Get started

There are a few ways you can clone an opportunity. From the main Opportunities screen, click the clone icon to the right of the opportunity in the list.

Anywhere you see this icon, you can clone. For example, you can clone opportunities from an organization or venue page in People & Organizations.

From an opportunity page, choose Clone opportunity under Actions to clone an opportunity.ย

Work with cloned opportunities

When you clone, all of the key information from the opportunity is copied over. Discussions, attachments, and costs are not cloned.

Behavior of Cloned Products

Cloned Opportunities inherit product details, such as tags, descriptions, and prices, from the source Opportunity. However, changes to product details made after the original Opportunity was created will not automatically appear in the clone. To update product details in a cloned Opportunity:

  1. Remove the product from the cloned Opportunity.

  2. Add the product back from your catalog, ensuring the latest details are included. This ensures all product information in cloned Opportunities is up to date.

Behavior of Service Dates

Service dates set in the original Opportunity are copied over when you clone. To modify service dates in the clone, simply update them to align with the new schedule or requirements.

Cloned opportunities are created as drafts, so no stock is reserved and no opportunity number is generated.ย

From your draft, work with your opportunity as normal: edit to change the organization, venue, subject, or other details; add or remove products and services, change prices, and offer discounts; and convert to a quotation or order.

Updating Inherited Attributes

After cloning, review all inherited attributes to ensure they meet your needs. Key steps include:

  • Update product details to ensure they match your current catalog.

  • Adjust service dates to align with your updated schedule.

  • Review custom fields, tags, and other specifics that inherit values from the original Opportunity. By updating inherited attributes, you can ensure accuracy and relevance for each new cloned Opportunity.
